Rockin' Ron the Friendly Pirate releases his first book!
The book has two parts. The first is based on the title track of The Flying Pirate Circus album. It is about a circus on a pirate ship. After the curtain call, the second part consists of lyrics from various songs and drawings to accompany them.
The Flying Pirate Circus was written by RRR Carter (aka Rockin' Ron the Friendly Pirate) and illustrated by Nat Reed, with book design by Carrie Cook. It was printed by L. Brown & Sons in Barre, Vermont.
The book will be on sale at the Country Store and 3 Mountain Outfitters - both at Smugglers' Notch Resort. It will be available at Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne, Ebenezer Books in Johnson, and other independent book stores in Vermont. The book will also be available from the author - contact RockinRonTheFriendlyPirate@gmail.com
GRAMMY NEWS: My album THE FLYING PIRATE CIRCUS and my songs SHARK IN THE DARK and EIGHT PIECES OF EIGHT are in the running!
I am so proud of this album! It's a 28 song collection with over 65 minutes of music. This collection sails the musical seas from blues to bagpipes, from dance mix to line dancing ship directions, from Celtic punk to nursery rhyme parodies, and from instrumentals to a spoken word finale.
Some new avorites include:
- "Shark in the Dark" is the monster hit on this new album - a song requested by kids and adults alike.
- "Eight Pieces of Eight" has more than eight references to the number itself, with a bit of math added in.
- "Without the R" shows what happens to some words when they lose the letter R.
- "Oona Uni-hook" is about a pirate unicorn that realizes it is OK to be different.
A crew of musicians and friends, lead by my Producer Andre Maquera, have helped me create an album rich in musical textures, moods and meanings. Natalie Reed has drawn characters for my other albums and now she has put her award winning talents to the creation of the cover art. I hope you'll join the crowd at "The Flying Pirate Circus"!
Now you SEA me!
The second album! It contains 20 songs ranging from the pop dance groove of the opener We RRR the Pirate People, to the taken-from-history tale of 1717 (Black Sam Bellamy), to the raucous rock of Rock the Plank, to the surfin' style of FP's Raingutter Regatta. There are gentle moments in the lullabyes of Magical Mermaid Parade and Safe Harbor. There are songs that can be used for special occaisions such as Pirate Birthday PaRRRty, Buccaneer Bells, Mother of Pearl, and Dad's Alright, He's Pirate - for Birthdays, Yuletide Celebrations, Mother's Day, and Father's Day respectively. As always, there RRR lots of puns and fun with language in Polly Esther Pants, Pirates of the Mayo, and The Word Pirate... and languages in Gator's Gotta Go. The CD is currently available at Smugglers' Notch Resort, and online through CD Baby. Downloads are available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and other sites.
